Statistical Sampling
Obtaining tracks from a statistically valid sample of people makes it
possible to obtain the most valuable data with a minimum of effort. In other words, we chose the people who will be tracked so that the sample is representative of the population.
This statistical sampling is a major improvement over using data from whomever happens to signup for a social app, and assuming that sample is representative of the larger population.
The data for a given metro area will be collected over a number
of days to ease the burden, and because such a "rolling sample"
will assure that the data will contain useful variation (e.g. weekdays
and weekends; rainy days and sunny days).
